Formatting Word for Reports Online
Reports
This session will help you to format your Word document for a Report submission. Your coursework brief will outline the layout and format of your Report submissions.
Numbered headings and page numbers are required for all reports. You can see below a list of sections included in a standard report structure. These can differ slightly from assignment to assignment, so make sure to check your assignment coursework brief for specifics.
- Title page
- Table of Contents page
- Introduction
- The main body of text (with sections/chapters to suit your material)
- Conclusion
- Bibliography
- Appendix
This session will cover:
- Using Styles to create numbered headings
- Using Styles to format text (heading styles, paragraphs)
- Use Section Breaks for correct page numbering
- How and when to use Page Breaks in the main body of text
- Add numbered captions to Tables and Figures
- How to refer to Tables and Figures in-text with Word's automated cross-reference function.
- Generate an automatic Table of Content
- Generate an automatic Table of Figures and a List of Tables.
This workshop is suitable for undergraduates and postgraduate students. Note: PhD students are recommended to check the Graduate Schools guidance on Blackboard, as this workshop will not cover how to create chapters in Word.
